Vijay Gupta
VG: Many ambitious projects started in Jammu failed to get complete on time, what is the status of these projects?
Div Com: It is true that many mega projects were sanctioned for Jammu, and most of them are nearly completion. In this regard, I took a detailed review of progress of various vital projects including multilevel parking bus stand, Legislative Complex, Development of Tawi River Front, Conservation/ Restoration of Mubarak Mandi Heritage Complex, Sewerage Project, Water Supply to Jammu from river Chenab, Jammu Ropeway Project, Bikram Chowk flyover, Expansion of Jammu Airport, Jammu Ring Road, Four laning of Jammu-Akhnoor Road, Parking at Panjtirthi and Parking at City Chowk.
VG: Why these mega projects were delayed?
Div Com: Though, these projects were delayed but there is the need to ensure strict adherence to the fixed timelines for completion of the projects. So I have directed the concerned departments to gear up their men and machinery for expeditious completion of these prestigious projects.
I am hopeful that some of these mega projects which are nearly completion will be commissioned soon.
VG: Ahead of the Republic Day celebration, security preparation is a tough task. How the Police will manage this job?
DIG: Definitely, to provide fool-proof security to the thousands of people, who used to visit to witness the r- day function is really a big task. Since, this day is an annual event and there are standard SOPs that have to be put in place to ensure fool proof security. So, we have fully geared our men and machinery to make elaborate security arrangement to ensure that all the pilgrims and citizens of our state should get full proof security to make this day incident free. VG: Despite many efforts by police, drug addiction is still a menace, why?
DIG: Really, drug addiction is still a serious menace and is putting a bad impact on the younger generation. It is not only the Jammu but other adjoining states are also badly affected due to this menace. We are committed to weed out this menace from the society completely and providing all type of services to the police.
VG: Police is working too hard to end this menace, but the number of cases related to this trade has been increased, why?
DIG: The police is fully geared its men and machinery to point out that elements, who are involved in this trade and this year has also recovered many big consignments including one at Kathua border. But due to being an entry point of our state, it becomes very difficult for our men to keep a complete eye on every vehicle entering into our state.
VG: While the police have recovered many big consignments this year but still there is free flowing of drugs into our state from the other states, why?
DIG: From last some years, the police is fully geared its men and machinery to point out that elements, who are involved in this trade and has recovered many big consignments at Kathua border. But due to being an entry point of our state, it is very difficult for our men to keep a complete eye on every vehicle entering into our state.
So, it is also the responsibilities of every citizen to inform the police, whenever they notice about such people, who are pushing the youth to become a drug addict.
This was all that the Divisional Commissioner Dr Pawan Kotwal and DIG, Jammu Ashquoor Wani has to say about the development works and their department in Jammu. Next time we will here again with some more personalities, till then good bye.
